Our Humble Beginning
Founded in 1997, the original intent of Lexwan was a simple one. We would fill the void for small businesses who could not afford a full-time IT person on their staff. This model was very successful for both us and our clients and we were able to render a great deal of value for a diverse range of IT needs. However, as we began to review the future potential of Lexwan, we realized that we needed to change our approach. This “jack of all trades” tactic was a good one but we decided it wasn’t the best one. We needed to specialize in just a few areas that we could be truly excellent. And so we did.
The Decision to Change
In 2001 we noticed an important emerging trend in business and technology. More and more companies were transitioning to “paperless”. This represented a radical shift in how documents in a business were being used and managed. A new term was created in 2000 to communicate this change by the Association for Information and Image Management. The term used was Enterprise Content Management or ECM for short. This was a brand new way of gaining greater utility from the same information by allowing users to manipulate information (manipulate in a good way) like never before. And Lexwan saw the handwriting on the wall and knew this opportunity would provide enormous potential for its current and future clients.
The Search Was On!
One of the fundamental elements that has shaped the Lexwan philosophy is that of preeminence. This simply means that we have strived, and continue to strive, to be the best of the best. And since this was a crucial part of who we are, we knew we needed a partner that shared our philosophy. So with this in mind, we researched the companies in the marketplace who were offering this ECM software to find who would be the perfect fit. After much comparative research we partnered with Hyland Software. Their ECM software was called OnBase and we were blown away when we saw the power of its features and functionality! Not to mention that Hyland has a global presence serving over 7,500 customers including many Fortune 500 companies. We knew this partner would demonstrate extraordinary value to both us and our clients for a long, long time – and we haven’t been disappointed!
One Down, One to Go
Our decision to focus and specialize on Enterprise Content Management was absolutely the best decision we ever made. We were able to harness technology in a revolutionary way for our clients that yielded unbelievable strides in progress for them. As we worked with these clients we began to discover another area that would eventually become our other specialty. A sense of frustration and powerlessness seemed to be the norm for many of our clients in the area of their telecommunications. So we set out to change that by forming partnerships with several nationwide voice and data services in 2005. These partnerships were the missing element from our service package to our clients. And since the introduction of this service we’ve seen massive shifts in how our clients perceive their voice services. We’ve helped them gain more control of their long distance use, we’ve helped consolidate bills into easy to understand formats, and we’ve helped save up to 62% savings on total costs. Yet another way Lexwan demonstrates benefit and care for our clients.
We Really Didn’t Intend to Be Strange…
Our specialties were decided and it was clear from the beginning that our clients were thrilled with the way we were able to help their businesses flourish. What we didn’t anticipate was the continual use of a word that isn’t normally used in this context. The word that started being frequently used was “WOW!” Apparently there was a certain expectation from IT companies that we weren’t meeting. It seems that most IT companies are generally expected to deliver mundane service full of jargon and confusing terms that don’t do much to deliver to either cost savings or to increase operational efficiency. But when our clients worked with us they realized almost immediate cost savings and increased ROI, their effectiveness using our ECM solution skyrocketed and they were not confused with our communication. In fact, they told us that we were unlike most other IT companies that they had worked with in the past. Strange they said. And so we have learned to embrace strangeness because our clients continue to be impressed, delighted, ecstatic, and yes, wowed with our contribution into their lives and their businesses.
